Monday 26th July - bike **** - Two rivers – Deben to the Orwell – mainly but close and hot.

Again, no rain has reached us here on the East coast but there was torrential rain with flooding at several places over the weekend so our garden remains dry with our water butt’s empty! Although mostly cloudy today it was close and hot so managed my exercises in the back garden while Mag sorted out her front garden. I then packed a salad lunch and we set off on our bikes just before one down to Felixstowe prom which was a bit of a mistake as it was busy so we cycled through the quieter Spa gardens coming out at The Fludgers. Then around to The Dip prom with fewer people we passed the golf course and stopped for our picnic by the River Deben where it enters the sea with the tide very high. This is a popular spot of ours but we haven’t been here for a while and enjoyed the salad watching the many vessel coming ang going including fishing boats, yachts and motor cruisers! Then around to Felixstowe ferry to see the ferry leave and the harbour master giving trips up the river. It’s always worth a walk around the boat yard with my camera as it is not often you get to see the tide this high! Then out onto the River Deben path stopping at the delict yellow boat for more pics, I must have hundreds taken here! Continuing to Kings Fleet with loads of water on the marshes looking pretty as a picture with sea lavender and loads of gulls too. Turning off we take Marsh Lane back to the woods at The Grove, through the town centre and down to Lidl, shopping off to buy a local paper as I have a pic in. I leave Mag shopping and continue through Langer Park and down to Felixstowe dock view point car park, a popular spot today with people even swimming. The Ever Greet container ship is in the first berth and Felixstowe is getting excited about the imminent arrival of its sister ship the much bigger Ever Given which had all the trouble in the Suez Canal recently! I head to the much quieter old jetty and stop for a drink and watch the tide whizz out! Then home through Landguard nature reserve, along the busy prom and home for the usual cuppa and cake:)
